At first I was a little shaken to see that Yahoo! Movies had rated the movie the Guardian a C. Mainly because I had seen the trailer, and I believed the movie had a lot of potential. Although this might have been true to Ashton Kutcher's movies, I wasn't ready to believe that Kevin Costner would affiliate his excellence of acting with such a movie. So off to the movies I went to seek the truth. I caught the four thirty o'clock showing in Glendale--of course I picked the best seat in the house, which is about half way up and dead smack in the middle (counted seats just to make sure).

The Guardian
So what is the movie about? Well at the beginning a Coast Guard Rescue Diver has a near death experience, which puts him back into "A" school(Coast Guard Diving School), except this time he is the teacher. The high school swimming champ turned trainee, played by Ashton Kutcher, puts his marbles on the table and thinks he is the shit. Except he finds out that he isn't really the shit, and goes through a great struggle. He eventually finds his way and is turned into a team player. With school complete, the rescue divers as well as the Senior Chief (Kevin Costner) are back at work saving lives. And of course the student gets caught in a ship and nearly dies, and who comes to save him? Daddy (Senior Chief). So what is the moral of the story? Basically, a washed up Coast Guard Rescue Diver, played by Kevin Costner, learns that there is more to life then just saving them.

So was Yahoo! Movies right in giving this movie a C? Not a chance! This movie is jam packed with excitment, and the story line is a great one this movie deserves at least a B-. Mostly because of Kevin Costner, but I must say that I did enjoy Ashton's acting after all. At first I thought this might turn into a Punk'd episode, but you get to see a more serious Ashton, much like that in The Butterfly Effect. With that said, I think that if Ashton keeps with these more dramatic roles, he might end up being something great.

Just on a side note, I do have two brother in laws turned Coast Guard, but this did not cloud my judgment of the movie in any way. So go see the movie... I'm sure you'd enjoy it. I'm serious! Get your ass up and go! Now...

Transformers

Based on the popular toys that transform from machines into giant robots, this live-action movie from Pearl Harbor director Michael Bay finds the planet Cybertron inhabitants engaging in a secret war for control of Earth's natural resources, which they desperately need for fuel. Able to disguise themselves as cars, airplanes, boats and more, the transformers prove a tough enemy in this film starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and Jon Voight.
